If you’ve never toured in Europe before then here is a chance for a quick visit to experience the great roads and scenery of five of our European neighbours. It’s a good time to dust off your bike and feel the wind in your face to start the riding season ahead!
You’ll stay in quality hotels – three and four-star – you’ll be led by an experienced rider on some of the best minor roads and stop at picturesque villages and towns. A support vehicle will follow the group at the rear and will carry your luggage for you. Day 1. Tuesday April 29th. Calais to Goes (approx. 140 miles)
After a Dover to Calais ferry crossing we head to the small hilltop town of Cassel…where in 1793, the Grand Old Duke of York once marched his men! We then make our way to Ypres in Belgium, well known for its role in the First World War. Onward to Bruges, then by tunnel under the Western Scheldt seaway into Holland and on to our hotel tonight on the outskirts of Goes. Dinner with wine is included. Day 2. Wednesday April 30th. Goes to Dinant (approx. 185 miles) This morning we run along the impressive Ossterschelde storm dykes which hold back the North Sea, before turning south via Zierkzee and across one of Europe’s longest sea bridges. South around Antwerp, then back into Belgium and to Mechelen, the country’s ecclesiastical capital. We follow the river Meuse to Dinant, a picture postcard town sitting on the river side and set under craggy cliffs. Best known as the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the Saxophone. Tonight you are free to eat out. Day 3. Thursday May 1st. Dinant to Vianden (approx. 90 miles) Off to Luxembourg through the forests and over the high hills of the Ardennes before stopping in St. Hubert, a famous hunting town. Then via Bastogne to Luxembourg and our hotel for the next two nights in Vianden. Overlooked by its hilltop castle and hidden away beneath the forested hills, Vianden stands on the river Our and was a frequent haunt of Victor Hugo. It is a charming town and not to be missed. Tonight you are free to eat out. Day 4. Friday May 2nd. Vianden to Bernkastle-Kues & return (approx. 130 miles) If you prefer, you can take the day off to explore Vianden and maybe take the ski lift to the hilltop overlooking the Castle or join a ride-out to Bernkastle-Kues, a quaint old German wine town which stands on the banks of the Mosel. After lunch in this quintessential town full of timber framed old buildings we follow the river Mosel until we reach Trier where we’ll visit the Harley dealership (if open). From here we head back to Vianden where you’ll be free to eat out. Day 5. Saturday May 3rd. Vianden to Chamouille (approx. 170 miles) We leave Luxembourg crossing the farmlands and forests of Belgium, leading to the rolling countryside of Picardy in northern France to our final night of the tour. Tonight’s hotel sits on a lake and every room has a balcony or patio over-looking it, a tranquil spot indeed. Tonight dinner with wine is included. Day 6. Sunday May 4th. Chamouille to Calais. (approx. 150 miles) We take a cross country route back to Calais for an afternoon crossing to Dover.
