A short tour to blow away the winter cobwebs! A four night, five day bed & breakfast trip staying at quality hotels in three towns famous for their history, architecture and culture. On some fabulous back roads, we’ll visit points along the coastline of northern France, from Calais to the WWII landing beaches in Normandy and some WWI sites on the Somme on our return.
Day 1. Monday 4th May. Calais to Saint Valery-en-Caux (approx. 150 miles)
After a leisurely start with a morning crossing to Calais, we ride the old coast road with its views back across the channel to England and on towards Boulogne. We’ll turn inland, taking small country roads to lunch in Montreuil – old walled town which is said to have been the inspiration for Victor Hugo’s Les Miserable. We head back to the coast and pick up the coast road to our hotel in Saint Valery-en-Caux and tonight you’ll be free to eat out.
Day 2. Tuesday 5th May. Saint Valery-en-Caux to Deauville (approx. 100 miles)
We continue to follow the coast, via the fishing port of Fecamp with its’ attractive seafront promenade, then onto Etretat where the “alabaster cliffs” of the region are at their most spectacular. From here we cross the mouth of the Seine over the Pont du Normandie and into Honfleur with its beautiful old marina surrounded by cafes and restaurants. After lunch we make our way to the Riviera of Normandy and Deauville, our stop for the next two nights. Our hotel overlooks the marina and tonight you are free to eat out.
Day 3. Wednesday 6th May Day off or ride out, Deauville and return (approx. 130 miles)
Today we visit the D-Day landing beaches and other historic places of interest including the house at Pegasus Bridge. This house, which is now a cafe, was the first house to be liberated at the start of Operation Overlord. We’ll also visit Mulberry Harbour where the heavy equipment was unloaded and the concrete barrages can still be seen. Our final stop before heading back is the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach. On returning to Deauville you’ll be free to eat out again.
Day 4. Thursday 7th May. Deauville to Arras (approx. 170 miles)
This morning we head back over the Pont du Normandie and then inland, cross-country via Amiens. We cross the Somme and visit the trenches at Beaumont Hamel and the British Memorial at Thiepval before arriving at our last nights’ hotel in the centre of Arras. Once again you’ll be free to eat out.
Day 5. Friday 8th May. Arras to Calais (approx. 80 miles)
Today we make a visit to the poignant, preserved trenches and tunnel at Vimy Ridge before making our way back to Calais for a late afternoon crossing back to Dover

What can I say...another brilliant tour. You are the master of the unspoiled traffic-free, continental roads. I had a ball...when I woke up this morning I wanted to point my bike at Dover and start the whole thing over again!
