We ran this tour last year and was so impressed we decided to go back again this year but with some hotel and route changes to make it even better! The tour is run at a leisurely pace starting at 9.30am each morning, stops for lunch and coffee along the way before arriving at each night’s hotel in time to relax before dinner. A support vehicle carries your luggage daily. DAY 1. Monday July 9th. Calais to Reims (approx. 180 miles)
After an early morning crossing from Dover to Calais we make our way south on a selection of main and back roads to the outskirts of Reims. We stay in a 4-star hotel which has a swimming pool. Dinner with wine is included tonight. DAY2. Tuesday July 10th. Reims to Nancy (approx. 130 miles) We leave Reims and head cross-country to St. Mihiel which stands on the River Meuse. From here it’s more back roads until we reach Nancy where our centrally located, 4-star hotel is within walking distance of the famous Stanislas Square. Considered the most beautiful royal square in Europe and on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, the city of Nancy is known all over the world thanks to Place Stanislas. The square has plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants and the nightlife is plentiful so we’ll be free to eat out tonight. At 10:45pm every night during the summer, there is a spectacular sound and light show with projections onto the buildings in the square. DAY 3. Wednesday July 11th. Nancy to Titisee (approx. 155 miles) Today we head over the high hills of the French Alsace, cross the River Rhine into Germany and through the hilly, forested region of the northern Black Forest. Our 4-star hotel for the night stands on the edge of Lake Titisee, a popular German holiday resort. Tonight you have the option to eat out in this pretty lakeside town. DAY 4. Thursday July 12th. Titisee to Bregenz (approx. 130 miles) We continue on the fabulous roads towards Messkirch where we head down to Lake Konstanz/Bodensee which is surrounded by Germany, Switzerland and Austria. We follow the lake via Meersburg and on to our hotel in Bregenz which stands close to the lake. Bregenz itself is famous for its opera festival – set on a massive floating stage and attracting over 200,000 visitors. It was featured heavily in the Bond movie, Quantum of Solace. Tonight you will be free to eat out. Day 5. Friday July 13th. Bregenz to Kitzbuhel (approx. 180 miles) Today we head east on the German Alpenstrasse, via Reutte and criss-crossing the German and Austrian borders. Past beautiful mountain enclosed Lake Plansee and onward via Garmisch and Lake Achensee until we reach Kitzbuhel. The 4-star hotel, our base for the next two nights, sits overlooking its’ own golf course and the surrounding mountains. All rooms have balconies to enjoy the view! Dinner with wine is included tonight, then a short stroll into town to see the bands. DAY 6. Saturday July 14th. Day off Today you have a few options. Play a round of golf on the hotels course or relax by the indoor swimming pool, sauna & steam room. Wander into the old centre and explore this beautiful old town and enjoy the party atmosphere of the local Harley rally, “Kitz on Wheels”. You can join their planned rides which take you through the Tyrolean Hinterland. In the evenings the town centre once again transforms with areas for live music. You are free to eat out tonight. DAY 7. Sunday July 15th. Kitzbuhel to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (approx. 140 miles) On leaving Kitzbuhel we make our way south to Mittersill where we follow the mountains to the famous Krimmler waterfall. Then over the Gerlos Pass at 1,600m and continuing with the views, bends and sweepies that we all love, we make our way to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Garmisch is surrounded by the Bavarian Alps and our 4-star hotel for tonight is in the old town centre. Dinner with wine is included. DAY 8. Monday July 16th. Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Ulm (approx. 120 miles) Our first stop today is in Oberammergau, famous for its once-in-a-decade Passion Play. From here we head north and out of the Bavarian Alps before picking up the motorway for the last 40 miles into Ulm – the birthplace of Albert Einstein. Our 4-star hotel sits on the edge of the River Danube and our dinner tonight is in a private restaurant with panoramic views of the city. DAY 9. Tuesday July 17th. Ulm to Zweibrucken (approx. 190 miles) From Ulm it's back to the Black Forest, over the Rhine and then north. Cutting through the heavily forested region of France known as the northern Vosges (where the Maginot line once stood) we then cross back into Germany and on to our hotel in Zweibrucken which has an indoor swimming pool. Dinner with wine is included tonight. DAY 10. Wednesday July 18th. Zweibrucken to Vianden (approx. 120 miles) Today we leave Germany with views over the Mosel Valley. We’ll make a visit to the Harley dealer in Trier before travelling through the beautiful countryside of Luxembourg and on to our hotel on the outskirts of picturesque Vianden, with views across to its famous Chateau. Tonight dinner is included and a short trip by mini-bus takes us into town (and back again). DAY 11. Thursday July 19th. Vianden to Chamouille (approx. 170 miles) We leave Vianden and cross the hills known as “Petite Suisse” before stopping at Esch. This pretty town sits in a river gorge and is our last stop in Luxembourg. From here it’s through the forests and farmlands of Belgium and on to France and the rolling countryside of the Chemin de Dames. Tonight’s hotel, which has a swimming pool, sits on a lake and every room has a balcony or patio over-looking it. Tonight dinner with wine is included. DAY 12. Friday July 20th. Chamouille to Calais (approx. 150 miles) We take a cross-country route back to Calais in time for an afternoon crossing back to the UK.
