Fancy a quick flit across the channel for a gentle ride on the great roads of Northern France? Then this is the one for you! A relaxed weekend on lovely scenic roads and a little taste of France. If you’ve never ridden abroad then this is also a great taster as the daily mileages are not long and we’re never far from Calais. Arras itself is an interesting historic old town and there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the centre were we can get everything from a Croque Monsieur to a four-course dinner, the choice is yours.
Day 1. Saturday April 16th. Calais to Arras (approx. 100 miles)
We start the day with a lovely ride along the old coast road with its views back across the channel towards the White Cliffs of Dover. We then cut inland and staying on the minor roads, make our way to Arras via picturesque country villages. The hotel is in the centre of Arras and only a few minutes’ walk from the historic Grand Place and Place de Heroes – the old town squares. Tonight we will eat out as there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the town centre. Day 2. Sunday April 17th. Arras and return (approx. 100 miles) Take the day off and explore Arras, the old town’s catacombs and wander around the old squares before a relaxing lunch as you watch the world go by. Alternatively, there will be a ride out around some WWI sites including Thiepval, Beaumont-Hamel and Delville Wood, but still with enough time for coffee stops and lunch before returning to Arras. Once again we’ll be eating out tonight. Day 3. Monday April 18th. Arras to Montreuil-sur-Mer (approx. 80 miles) From here we make out way to Montreuil via Vimy Ridge, where the trenches have been preserved and then a visit to the battle site at Agincourt. Our centrally located hotel for the night is in Montreuil, an old walled town which is said to have been the inspiration for Victor Hugo’s Les Miserable and Field Marshall Haig’s headquarters during WWI. Tonight we will eat out in this quaint old town. Day 4. Tuesday April 19th. Montreuil-sur-Mer to Calais (approx. 60 miles) We make our way back to Calais on the empty minor roads and in time to catch an early afternoon ferry back to the UK. Total tour mileage approximately 340 |

N.B. If you do not require the ferry crossing, deduct £75 per motorcycle. What can I say...another brilliant tour. You are the master of the unspoiled traffic-free, continental roads. I had a ball...when I woke up this morning I wanted to point my bike at Dover and start the whole thing over again! |
