AUTHORISED HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE TOURS AROUND EUROPE - TUSCANY - 4-16 MAY 2012
New for 2012, this tour travels through France, Switzerland & on into Italy before returning back on a different route through Italy & France. Because some days are quite long mileage wise, motorways will be used on this trip.
Day 1. Friday May 4. Calais to Troyes (approx. 250 miles)
After crossing the Channel we leave Calais around 11.am and take the Peage motorway to Reims (approx. 200 miles) before we turn off into the countryside and then to the centre of Troyes. Dinner with wine is included tonight and we shall all be dining at a restaurant in the old quarter of the city, close to the hotel.
Day 2. Saturday May 5. Troyes to Montreux (approx. 240 miles)
Peage motorway for 70 miles before hitting the back roads to Switzerland. Crossing the pass at St. Croix and the high hills to Montreux. Our hotel stands on the edge of Lake Geneva and you are free to eat out in one of the many lakeside restaurants of this buzzy & vibrant Swiss town.
Day 3. Sunday May 6. Montreux to Lake Como (approx. 190 miles)
We follow the valley to Martigny before heading over the Simplon Pass to Italy where we stay on minor scenic roads going via Locarno and Lugano before reaching our hotel on the edge of Lake Como. Dinner with wine is included tonight.
Day 4. Monday May 7. Lake Como to Montespertoli (approx. 270 miles)
Due to the overall distance today there will be 170 miles on motorway. This morning we cross Lake Como and take a lakeside ride to Lecco & Bergamo before joining the motorway & other countryside roads until we reach Maranello and a visit to the Ferrari Museum. From here we finish the day on motorway to get us around Bologna and Florence and then to our hotel for the next four nights. The Hotel Villa la Cappela is a beautiful old hotel set amidst the Tuscan Hills. Dinner with wine is included tonight.
Day 5. Tuesday May 8. Montespertoli to Florence & return or day off at the hotel.
Today we are off the bikes and we have arranged a trip into Florence with a guided tour and a visit to the Harley dealership. On returning to the hotel, dinner with wine will be waiting for you.
Day 6. Wednesday May 9. Montespertoli to San Gimignano and Sienna & return or day off at the hotel (approx. 95 miles)
Day 7. Thursday May 10. Day off at the hotel or have a ride around this beautiful area.
Day 8. Friday May 11. Montespertoli to Santa Margherita Ligure (approx. 160 miles)
Today we start with a ride to and a leisurely visit of Pisa before heading to the Mediterranean coast and lunch beachside in Lido Di Camaiore. After lunch we hug the coast all the way to Santa Margherita, a lovely old Italian resort. Tonight you are free to eat out in Santa Margherita or if you prefer take a taxi to nearby Portofino for dinner (3 miles away).
Day 9. Saturday May 12. Santa Margherita Ligure to Asti (approx. 115 miles)
This morning we ride to Portofino and have a leisurely stop in the main square... courtesy of the local Police Commissioner. After Portofino we leave the coast and wind our way upwards through the hills, with stunning views back across to the Mediterranean. We have a stop at the Harley dealer in Allesandria before arriving at our hotel in Asti. Our hotel is centrally located in the centre of this famous wine town and you are again free to eat out.
Day 10. Sunday May. 13. Asti to Chamonix (approx. 170 miles)
After a flat country run to avoid Turin, we then start our climb up the wine valley to Aosta and high over the Gran S. Bernardo pass and into Switzerland. Then high again as we head to Chamonix via the Forclaz pass. Tonight you are free to eat out after over 100 miles of mountain scenery today.
Day 11. Monday May 14. Chamonix to Dijon (approx. 200 miles)
Today we leave the mountains behind us as we continue on country roads to Dijon. Our centrally located hotel means you are free to eat again tonight and it’s worth a quick wander through this old French city before dinner.
Day 12. Tuesday May 15. Dijon to Chamouille (approx. 200 miles)
Sweeping roads toward Troyes which we avoid by staying in the countryside. After a lakeside lunch we head into the champagne fields of Picardy and to our final night. The lakeside hotel sits in the lovely rolling countryside of the Chemin des Dames. Dinner with wine is included for our final night.
Day 13. Wednesday May 16. Chamouille to Calais (approx. 160 miles)
A cross country ride before joining the motorway for the final 60 miles to Calais for a late afternoon ferry back to the Dover.
