AUTHORISED HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE TOURS AROUND EUROPE – SPAIN, BARCELONA, PYRENEES AND FRANCE
2-13 JUNE 2010

A change this year as, for the first time, we travel east to the Mediterranean coast and a two night stay in cosmopolitan Barcelona. For the return leg of the tour we ride over the Pyrenees and up through France to St. Malo for our ferry home.

Spanish castle

Day 1. Wednesday June 2. Portsmouth to Santander. A morning departure from Portsmouth and a 24 hour crossing to northern Spain.

Day 2. Thursday June 3. Santander to Lerma (approx. 120 miles).
We leave Santander and head south, around the Picos mountains, towards Burgos and to our first night's stop in Lerma. Tonight we stay in a 4 star Parador, the Palacio Ducal de Lerma. Originally built as a place of rest and enjoyment for King Phillip III, it stands at the highest point of the old town.

Day 3. Friday June 4. Lerma to Siguenza (approx. 120 miles).
We leave Lerma and wind our way via the back roads to Siguenza and tonight's 4 star Parador which is a 12th century castle, once the home of bishops, cardinals and kings.

Day 4. Saturday June 5. Siguenza to Alcaniz (approx. 160 miles).
We cross the sparsely populated and remote region of Aragon via Albaracin, one of the most picturesque towns of the province. Onwards via Teruel, to Alcaniz where we stay in the 3 star Parador La Concordia, a castle built between the 12th & 13th centuries.

Day 5. Sunday June 6. Alcaniz to Barcelona (approx. 150 miles).
We make our way to Barcelona and our two night stay in the fabulous 5 star Grand Marina. The hotel overlooks the cruise liner port, has a rooftop swimming pool and is only a short walk away from the centre. Tonight you are free to eat out.

Day 6. Monday June 7. Day off to explore Barcelona. Tonight you free to eat out.

Day 7. Tueday June 8. Barcelona to Cardona (approx. 60 miles).
Leaving Barcelona we begin our approach to the Pyrenees and make our way to Cardona and its famous Salt Mountain - a massive saline deposit which has been around since ancient times. Tonight's 4 star Parador is the medieval castle of the Duques de Cardona.

Day 8. Wednesday June 9. Cardona to Vielha (approx. 125 miles).
We now follow the mountain passes, gorges and valleys of the Spanish Pyrenees as we wind our way to our hotel in the heart of the mountains. If open, we are hoping to stop at El Dorado of Motocross - a motorbike museum containing predominately Spanish vintage & classic motorcycles. Our hotel tonight is a 4 star modern building overlooking the Valley D'Aran.

Day 9. Thursday June 10. Vielha to Perigueux (approx. 200 miles).
Today we leave the mountains behind and start our return journey through France. Keeping to the more picturesque roads we head north until we reach Perigueux where our hotel for the night stands in the centre between the Roman and the medieval parts. Tonight you are free to eat out.

Day 10. Friday June 11. Perigueux to Les Sables d'Olonne (approx. 215 miles).
We leave the Dordogne region heading north-west via Brantome and Cognac towards the Atlantic coast and the seaside resort of Les Sables. Our hotel faces the ocean and has a heated sea water pool.

Day 11. Saturday June 12. Les Sables to d'Olonne to Dinard (approx. 175 miles).
Coast to coast today, leaving the Atlantic and making for the English Channel off the north coast of France. Our boutique style hotel is in Dinard and sits on the promenade of this bustling seaside resort. Tonight you are free to eat out.

Day 12. Sunday June 13. Dinard to St. Malo and ferry to Portsmouth. A short ride to St. Malo before taking the morning ferry back to Portsmouth. You are due to arrive at approximately 6.15pm

Total tour mileage approx. 1,330
