AUTHORISED HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE TOURS AROUND EUROPE – RHINE & MOSEL CRUISIN’ – 1-8 JULY 2012
We have our first night in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes before we head east into Germany and the fabulous roads and scenery around the Rhine valley. Our hotel in Konigswinter is situated on the banks of the river at the foot of the one of Germany's oldest nature reserves. We return via the beautiful Mosel valley where vineyards line the river valley from Koblenz to Trier - great relaxing, scenic, riverside riding.
Day 1. Sunday July 1. Calais to Dinant (approx. 195 miles)
Leaving Calais, to crunch some miles, we have the first 80 on motorway until we reach Cambrai and then it's back roads to Belgium, following the River Meuse (famous as the river in the Battle of the Bulge) until we reach Dinant in the beautiful Ardennes. The hotel tonight sits on the riverside in the centre of town and tonight you are free to eat out.
Day 2. Monday July 2. Dinant to Konigswinter (approx. 155 miles)
Over the wooded hills of the Belgian Ardennes via Stavelot with its Spa influenced motor racing museum. On to Monchau - our first stop in Germany and one of the prettiest & quaint old towns nestling between gorges and a meandering river. Onward to our hotel sitting on the edge of the Rhine in the pretty riverside town of Konigswinter. You are free to eat out again tonight.
Day 3. Tuesday July 3.
Today you are free to relax, go for a ride or take a boat north to Cologne or south to Boppard. Tonight you will be free to eat out.
Day 4. Wednesday July 4. Konigswinter to Koblenz (approx. 50 miles)
Today we follow the mighty Rhine towards Koblenz via Remegen - famous for its bridge, which apart from its support towers & museum, no longer exists! On to Anderrach, a town which can trace its history back 2000 years to Roman times. Our hotel tonight is in Koblenz which stands on the junction of the Rhine & Mosel rivers. Dinner with wine is included tonight.
Day 5. Thursday July 5. Koblenz to Trier (approx. 80 miles)
The entire day is spent following the beautiful Mosel River lined by vineyards, castles and old towns & villages. Stopping off at the old wine towns of Cochem, then on for lunch in Bernkastle-Kues before arriving in Trier - Germany's oldest city dating back to Roman times where the old Roman city gate (Porto Nigra) is still intact. Tonight you are free to eat out in this lovely city.
Day 6. Friday July 6. Trier to Clervaux. (approx. 60 miles)
Today we leave Germany & her rivers and head into Luxembourg but not before a visit to the Harley dealer in Trier. Once in Luxembourg we cross the countryside known as Petite Suiss and our hotel tonight is in Clervaux. Dinner with wine is included tonight.
Day 7. Saturday July 7. Clervaux to Chamouille (approx. 170 miles)
Over the high hills of Luxembourg, across the farmlands and through the forests of Belgium & France to our final night of the tour. Tonight's hotel sits on a lake and every room has a balcony or patio over-looking it, a tranquil spot indeed. Tonight dinner with wine is included.
Day 8. Sunday July 8. Chamouille to Calais (approx. 160 miles).
A cross country ride back to Calais for a late afternoon ferry back to the Dover.
