Based on the 2007 Italian Lakes trip but for 2008 we've added the Alps so great riding through France, Italy & Switzerland. We'll be staying on the edge of Lake Como & Lake Lausanne, in the ski resort of Chamonix and the wine regions of Burgundy & Champagne this is a tour with mountain views and tranquil lakes.
Day 1. Saturday July 19. Calais to Reims (approx 190 miles).
After an early morning ferry we head to our first night's hotel on the outskirts of Reims. We'll keep away from the motorways and take a direct route using minor roads. Once at the hotel there'll be time for a dip in the swimming pool before diner, which is included tonight.
Day 2. Sunday July 20. Reims to Beaune (approx. 190 miles)
Today we head south, again on the quieter main and minor roads before arriving at Beaune, a town known for its Burgundy wines. The hotel tonight is in the centre of Beaune has a swimming pool and you will be free to eat out in one of its many restaurants only a few minutes walk away.
Day 3. Monday July 21. Beaune to Chamonix & Mont Blanc (approx. 180 miles).
Heading south today and first stop of the day is in the old town of Piere de Bresse. Continuing from here via Lors le Saupier and then south past the lacs de Vouglans and on to Annecy with a stop long enough to see the warren of lanes, passages and old arcaded houses which nestle at the edge of this impressive lake. We then cross the passes at Floret and Megeve before arriving at our Hotel in the centre of Chamonix, which is home for the next two nights. You are free to eat out for the next two nights.
Day 4. Tuesday July 22. Day off to explore Chamonix, take the chair lift or train up to the Mont Blanc glacier or just relax at the hotel.
Day 5. Wednesday July 23. Chamonix to Lake Como (approx. 200 miles).
Well rested we head over to the Col des Montets & Col de la Forclaz to Martigny from where we then head to another pass the Col du St. Bernard and into Italy. After a brief excursion on the motorway (which we leave at Ivrea), it's across to Como and you have the next three nights at the lovely Hotel Lario on the edge of Lake Como. Dinner with wine is included tonight.
Day 6 & 7. Thursday July 24 & Friday July 25. Two days off to relax or join a ride out to the local Harley Dealer, a pizza party run by local restaurateur and Harley man or take a lake tour, the choice is yours.
Day 8. Saturday July 26. Lake Como to Montreux (approx. 200 miles).
Today we make for the Simplon Pass and Switzerland calling at Lugano, Locarno (Lake Magiorre) and then to Montreux, famous for its' music festival. Our hotel tonight sits overlooking the lake and the Alps beyond and dinner with wine is included.
Day 9. Sunday July 27. Montreux to Dijon (approx. 200 miles)
This morning we make out way to Lake Neuchatel before heading cross-country back into France. Tonight's hotel is in the centre of Dijon and you'll be free to eat out once again.
Day 10. Monday July 28. Dijon to Chamouille (approx. 200 miles).
Today we continue north from Dijon, bypass Troyes and on to our final night in the small village of Chamouille and a stay at one of our favourite hotels. Dinner with wine is included tonight.
Day 11. Tuesday July 29. Chamouille to Calais (approx. 150 miles). More country roads and some motorway to get us back to Calais in time for a late afternoon crossing back to Dover.
