Frequently asked questions

How many miles do you travel each day?
The most we would travel on our planned routes is 250 miles in any one day. We plan our daily routes with 40-60 miles between each stop. On the longer trips we include stops of two or more nights in the same hotel – so you get a break from unpacking!

Do you ride in convoy?
Yes, we ride in staggered Harley formation and the group usually stays together. However, this is your holiday and we do not insist you ride with the group, if you want to go and ride on your own and make your own way to each night’s hotel you can. It’s not a problem, all we ask is that you tell us before we leave each morning so we are not counting the wrong number of bikes!

How fast do you go?
Your Road Captain rides at a constant 50-60mph on straights, bends, sweepies etc. and he will adhere to all speed limits especially in towns and villages.

What type of Harley’s do you get?
All models are welcome!

What about the exhaust system requirements?
There are now legal requirements for noise levels in most of the EU. Although we have not had a problem in the past that is not to say we will encounter one in the future. You are responsible for the legality and road-worthiness of your own motorcycle.

What provisions do you make for fuel stops?
The routes are planned with plenty of fuel stops along the way and the group will re-fuel based on the smallest tank – so if there is a V-Rod or Sportster in the group we re-fuel at around 90-100 miles.

What level of security do you have at the hotels?
We always look for Hotels with secure parking arrangements and will arrange extra overnight security if we are not totally happy. You can, of course, bring your own locks and/or chains if you wish.

Where can I hire a Harley?

For those of you coming to the UK from the USA your first port of call is Harley Fly/Ride. Call them on +414 343 4896. There are a limited number of vehicles to rent and they can get booked up very early.
There are several UK dealers who also do rentals but these do work out a bit more expensive than Fly/Ride. Check out the dealers who do rentals on the Harley website. In London try Warr’s and in Canterbury try the Foundry.

Where do the tours start?
The majority of our tours depart from the ferry terminal in Dover, with the exception of the Spanish tour which departs from Portsmouth, however please check each individual tour itinerary for start and finish points.

Where do the tours finish?
The majority of the tours finish at the ferry terminal in Calais, with the exception of the Spanish tour which finishes at the ferry terminal in Santander, however please check each individual tour itinerary for start and finish points.

What happens in the event of a breakdown?
On the long haul tours we take a spare bike in the back of the support van and is only used in an emergency. We will always try and assist you in the event of a breakdown, however we do recommend that you take out breakdown recovery, which will cover you for a replacement vehicle (this may be a car) so you can continue with the tour. Harley Assist will get you to the nearest dealer for your bike to be fixed, it will not get you back home if your motorcycle cannot be repaired.

Do you supply travel/medical insurance?
We do not supply travel/medical insurance but this can usually be taken out with breakdown cover. As with any holiday you book, this insurance cover must include holiday cancellation and repatriation in the event of an accident, illness or death.
For UK citizens only - You must obtain and complete an E111 form from the Post Office, which is an agreement within EC countries enabling you to claim back a percentage of medical fees and gives you emergency treatment.

What is the average age of your customers?
Average age is probably 45 but everyone is welcome!

I want to extend my holiday. Can you arrange a later/earlier ferry for me?
No problem – we can extend ferry crossings for you, just let us know in advance and we’ll sort it out.

What standard of hotels do you use?
Nothing less than three star with en-suite facilities. On longer tours often quite luxurious four & five star Hotels. See the individual tour descriptions. Price of the tour is a good indicator - as with everything else, you get what you pay for!

Do the hotels have hairdryers?
Yes but in the some Hotels you may need to ask at reception.

Are other meals included?
See the individual tour details - all included items are specified. We try to leave space in the itinerary for you to eat out occasionally, which can make a nice change from group meals every night and you can also decide the type of eating experience you want.

But I am a vegetarian…
So are an increasing number of our clients that's why we make special provision for you on the Booking Form. All that we ask is that you let us know IN ADVANCE whether you eat fish or dairy products so that we can put in requests for you at the Hotels.

What clothes do I take?
Always pack your wet weather gear, apart from that smart, casual dress for the evening meals especially in the four star hotels.

What do you do if it rains?
Get wet.

What is the weather going to be like?
Unfortunately we are not weather forecasters and as we all know these days it can be very unpredictable. We have had blazing sunshine in April and May and freezing cold and rain in August. Generally, the further south we go the better the weather will be and if we’re in the mountains it can be wet and cold.

Is there a support van?
There is a support vehicle on most of the trips and this is mainly to carry your luggage each day (we are unable to pick up your luggage prior to the trip so it’s your responsibility to get your luggage to the start point). However, if flying into the UK to pick up a rental bike, we can arrange an airport pick up for you and your luggage. On the long haul trips the support vehicle comes with one spare bike, which can be used in the event of a motorcycle breaking down.

Are you bonded?
All our tours are fully bonded with a Travel Industry insurance bond. That means that you are fully protected against our financial insolvency.
